Adjustable (Variable) Speed Drives

|Site Map |

What is a variable speed drive, how does it work?

Adjustable speed drives (ASD), variable-speed drives (VSD), or variable frequency drives (VFD) are used to control the machinery speeds. Industrial processes operate at different speeds for different products. Using ASD adjustable speed drives provides smoother operation, acceleration control, differing operating speeds for each process, compensation for changing process variables, allowing slower operation for setup purposes, adjusting the rates of production, allowing more accurate positioning, and controlling torque or tension

Ratiotrol® DCX controllers statically convert single phase AC line power to regulated DC for non-regenerative, adjustable speed armature control of shunt-wound and permanent-magnet DC motors. Drives provide additional savings by reducing the speed of the motor and therefore the horsepower required to operate. Longer motor life, improved power factor, reduced noise and greater flexibility also contribute to lower operating cost. Zero-Max adjustable (or variable) speed drives provide easy and precise speed control in various applications.
